Personal Profile

Currently working as the First Mate onboard of the S/Y IDLE (32 metres), I am looking for a captain position on a <200GT Sailing yacht or Motor yacht or First Mate on a <500GT yacht where I can apply my passion for both sailing and hopitality. Sailing most of my life, from dinghy racing at 12 to skippering yachts in 1984 at just 18, then in regattas, as a semi-professional since 1996 and now full time professional since 2007, I have now more than 20 years as skipper. I have experience on several yacht types and possess strong sailing skills. I have been managing my own company for 15 years, which has allowed me to gain a valuable insight into client and objectives oriented management.

Yachting Professional Experience

• August 2009 to Present : For the same owner of M/Y Multiple, I moved on his S/Y IDLE, a 32 meters CNB yacht, as First Mate in charge of the deck, sails and IT/AV on board.
• April 2008 to August 2009 : Bosun and IT/AV officer on board of M/Y Multiple (50m), in charge of deck duties, navigational bridge watch, responsible for all the electronics on board (Satellites systems, navigation equipment, networks and computers, AV and multimedia systems), tenders driving (Novurania/HamiltonJet) and dinghy sailing.
• Since 1997 : ForceDouce, founder and active skipper of a Belgium association that help disabled children to improve their self-confidence using sail activities and regattas. We have participated to several official French and Belgian Championships. (http://www.forcedouce.org)
• Since 1997 : SMEGS, Manager and skipper for a yearly event for physicians. One week navigation with up to 7 yachts in Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Corsica, Cowes, Saint-Vincent (Caribbean), Turkey;

2007 : UKSA Ocean graduate: Based in Cowes (UK) more than 2500 NM and 6 months intensive navigation training, offshore and ocean passages. Shore based training including navigation (Coastal & Celestial), IRPCS, SSO, STCW95, yacht maintenance techniques, radar (with ARPA training) and General Operator Certificate.

Since 1984 Skipper : More than 5000 NM as skipper on monohull and catamarans sailing yachts up to 57’ including:

• Skipper for coastal navigations in Brittany, UK, Ireland, Corsica, Côte d’Azur, Corsica, French west Indies Caribbean, Turkey, Belgium coast… since 1984;
• Tactics and/or Skipper for National Sport Boat Cup of North Sea (North of France and Belgium) from 1999 to 2004. Best result: 6th of 18 boats and on French National Championship of First Class 8 (One Design 30” sport boat) in 2003 and 2004. Best result: 4th of 50 boats;
• Skipper for more than 30 passages in tidal waters like Nieuwpoort-Ramsgate, Brest-Cowes, Cowes-Dunkerque, … or in Mediterranean like Cannes-Calvi, Marseille-Calvi, … since 1989
• “Transat des Alizées” in 1995 on “Pavillon Beauvoir” (Futura 51” ULDB) Cross Atlantic race from Brest (France) to Casablanca (Morocco) then to Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadalupe, France) as skipper on behalf of the owner;
